Exploring the Educational Possibilities of Chinese Vocabulary Learning Using Generative AI: Focusing on ‘Gyereuk
This study investigates how generative AI-based tools can be utilized for classical Chinese vocabulary learning, using the idiom Gyeruk as the focal theme.By comparing the response structures, contextual interpretation capabilities, and learner-centered explanatory styles of various AI platforms-Wrtn, ChatGPT, and HIX Chat-the research examines their educational potential and limitations.Applied to an actual liberal arts course at a university, the findings show that generative AI contributes not only to information delivery but also significantly supports question generation and the expansion of creative thinking in learners.Wrtn demonstrated strengths in intuitive explanations and source citation, which were particularly helpful for beginning learners.ChatGPT was evaluated highly for its comprehensive understanding of classical contexts and structured response composition, making it more suitable for intermediate and advanced learners.Notably, 54 out of 55 students used ChatGPT for their team projects, indicating a strong learner preference and perceived effectiveness in student-centered learning environments.Based on these insights, the study proposes a formative assessment framework and instructional design model structured around the integrated cognitive process of exploration, interpretation, and creative convergence. These results provide foundational implications for future research and instructional practices in digital humanities and interdisciplinary educational content development.
