Research Trend of THeses and Academic Journals of Skincare and Makeup: From 2014 to 2023

Skincare and makeup are closely interconnected field that inevitably take place in everyday life. The purpose of this study is to identify the research trends of degree theses and academic journals in the skincare and makeup fields from 2014 to 2023, providing basic data necessary for predicting the future prospects of these industries and understading K-beauty culture. The method involved collecting and analyzing a total of 2,703 master’s and doctoral theses related to skincare and makeup, as well as 1,566 academic journals registered in KCI and KCI candidate lists. As a result, it was found that the number of theses and academic journals related to skincare exceeded those related to makeup. Keyword analysis showed that ‘face care’ was the most frequently appearing keyword in the skincare field, while ‘beauty makeup’ appeared most often in the makeup field. This indicates the research on skincare has been conducted more activity than on makeup. In conclusion, researchers have focused more on skincare, especially face care, and it is suggested that more efforts should be made to encourage active research in the makeup field to achieve balanced development within the beauty sector.
