Multiplication-Type Organic Polarization-Sensitive Photodetector Capable of Detecting Specific Wavelength Bands

To enhance the photoelectric conversion efficiency of organic polarization-sensitive photodetectors, a pioneering quantum confinement enhancement mechanism developed through the synergistic modulation of molecular orientation engineering and trap states is presented. An experiment in which the active layer was constructed using a unidirectionally rubbed P3HT film with velvet cloth and a classic blend system of P3HT:PC61BM (100:2) demonstrated that the proposed strategy effectively optimized the overall device performance. Remarkable achievements include an external quantum efficiency reaching 12,007.42% coupled with a specific detectivity of 2.01 × 1012 Jones, while the polarization-sensitive thin films exhibited an exceptional dichroic ratio up to 15.12, and the devices achieved an anisotropic response ratio as high as 2.32. To our knowledge, this might be one of the organic polarization-sensitive photodetectors with relatively excellent optoelectronic performance and polarization characteristics reported so far. Considering proper energy band alignment, this universal strategy shows promising potential for extensive applications in polarization detection fields. Based on this, by manipulating localized Frenkel exciton dissociation, a polarization photodetector capable of detecting specific wavelength bands was further designed, which increases the dimension of light detection. This work provides a novel design perspective for organic polarization-sensitive detection systems, offering significant implications for next-generation optoelectronic devices.
