The Effects of Brazilian Waxing Using Aroma Essential Oils on Skin Condition and Pain Perception
This study investigated the effects of using aromatic essential oils during Brazilian waxing on skin condition and pain perception. Twelve participants were recruited and divided into the left (experimental group) and right (control group) based on the center. The experimental group applied blended aromatic oils (lavender, marjoram, geranium, and bergamot) to the left side of the Brazilian area and left it on for 10 minutes before the procedure, and the control group used regular oils. Moisture, elasticity, roughness, and pain (VAS) were measured before, immediately after, and 4 weeks after the procedure, and subjective satisfaction after the procedure was also investigated. SPSS 27.0 was used for data analysis, and frequency analysis, t-test, analysis of covariance, and one-way ANOVA were performed. The results showed that skin moisture and elasticity significantly increased and roughness decreased after Brazilian waxing. In particular, the moisturizing effect was better immediately after the procedure when aromatic oils were used, and the roughness decreased compared to when regular oils were used after 4 weeks. Second, the post-treatment pain was significantly reduced compared to when general oil was used. Third, when aroma oil was used, subjective satisfaction with heat, itchiness, and the need for re-treatment was higher. Therefore, Brazilian waxing using aroma oil is effective in relieving pain and improving skin condition, and can be actively utilized as it can increase customer satisfaction.
