THE OPPORTUNITIES OF USING DANIO RERIO AS A BIOLOGICAL MODEL IN STUDIES OF GEROPROTECTIVE FEATURES OF BIOLOGICALLY ACTIVE SUBSTANCES
Common approaches in science for in vivo studying age-related pathologies and aging are based on model objects from the rodent group. One of the main advantages of using zebrafish (Danio rerio) as a biological model is its rapid development and reproduction period compared to rodents. In addition, the cost of research on the zebrafish model is less than 1/1000 of the cost of a similar study on mice. Physiological and pathological processes in the field of neural activity, inflammatory reactions, regeneration, nonspecific immunity and a number of other areas are similar in zebrafish and humans to a sufficient extent for laboratory modeling and testing of potential drugs. Some examples of the use of zebrafish in modeling a number of age-related pathologies and aging in general, including known methods for detection and initiation of aging, have been discussed in this review.
