Mobility as a Service towards sustainability: pilot experiments and user choice analysis

Within the passenger transport sector, Mobility as a Service (MaaS) has evolved in recent years and has been tested in various contexts, especially in urban areas. The main objective is to encourage the user’s mobility, considered at the centre of an integrated transport system, to achieve sustainability objectives, through the support of Information and Communication Technologies (ICT). This paper addresses the study of MaaS with specific reference to user choices in an experimental lab. In some territorial areas, pilot samples of users were interviewed, proposing hypothetical scenarios with a stated and revealed preferences type survey. The choices declared by the users were analysed to calculate choice indicators of the proposed scenarios and the propensity to change the choice in the absence or presence of MaaS in a logic of acceptance of the entire system, integration of transport services and technological (Technology Acceptance Model). The results can be used to define a general evaluation methodology and design a complete investigation for the feasibility project of real systems. The paper is useful for researchers and decision-makers evaluating MaaS implementation concerning the user’s acceptance.
