Modeling the Spatial Variability of the Willingness to Use Carsharing Services in Urban Areas

This study investigates factors influencing the willingness to use car-sharing services based on a designed stated preferences experiment conducted in Athens, Greece. It focused on the spatial variability of future demand for car-sharing. By estimating descriptive statistics and a binary logistic regression model, this research explores the relationship between car-sharing attractiveness and operational, service cost factors, spatial variables, and socio-demographic characteristics. Results show that respondents primarily seek economic benefits from car-sharing since higher service costs decrease attractiveness. Simultaneously, increased private car operational costs positively affect the willingness to use. Limited parking within 250- and 500-meter walking distances positively contributes to CS demand, but beyond 1,000 meters, the willingness decreases. Overall, respondents express a higher willingness to use shared electric vehicles (EVs) to minimize the operational cost too.
