De (on)bereikbaarheid van ziekenhuizen in België
Differences in access to healthcare are a key aspect of social inequality in health. This research note focuses on one specific facet of such access: the physical accessibility of hospitals. The analysis has two objectives: (i) mapping the geographic variation in hospital accessibility, and (ii) examining the relationship between accessibility and sociodemographic characteristics (i.e., income and age). In addition, this note aims to demonstrate the power of visualisations as an analytical tool and to encourage other sociologists to make use of publicly available official data, such as administrative records or census data.
