Conditions of Formation, Composition, Quality and Technological Properties of Coals of the Mugun Deposit (Irkutsk Coal Basin)

The features of coal formation of the Mugun deposit of the Irkutsk coal basin are considered. This deposit is located in a relatively tectonically quiet part of the basin, approaching a typical platform in tectonic settings. The processes of peat formation of the deposit are closely related to the stages of development of the south-eastern part of the Angara-Chulym Mesozoic trough. Based on the petrographic studies, it was established that coals accumulated in flooded conditions, with compensated sedimentation. Analysis of the quality and technological properties of coals of productive seams I and II showed that, according to the substance-petrographic classification, the coals are helites, medium-ash, medium-sulfur. Taking into account the uniform brand composition of coals of the Mugun deposit (belonging to the third brown vitrinite subgroup), the following areas of non-fuel use were identified: raw materials for the production of synthetic liquid fuel and coal-humic preparations (fertilizers). As a result of comparison of the quality indicators of the studied coals with the regulatory indicators of coals suitable for the production of synthetic liquid fuel, a conclusion was made about their pre-liminary suitability. Experimental tests proved the possibility of using the studied coals as organomineral fertilizers in combination with poor phosphorite ores. The selected optimal ratio of processed phosphorite and brown coal is (0.7-0.8):1.0.
