IMPACTOS PSICOSSOCIAIS E FUNCIONAIS DA RINOPLASTIA ESTÉTICA E FUNCIONAL: REVISÃO NARRATIVA DA LITERATURA
ABSTRACT Introduction: Rhinoplasty is an extremely complex procedure regarding satisfactory postoperative outcomes, requiring precise facial analysis and detailed prior planning, as the result impacts the overall facial appearance, nasal function, and quality of life. In the current healthcare context, the ability to quantify patient benefits from otolaryngology interventions has become increasingly essential. In nasal surgery, outcomes mainly depend on the patient’s subjective satisfaction with nasal function and appearance, aspects that are often interconnected. Objective: We aim to discuss the psychosocial and functional impacts on patients undergoing this procedure. Methodology: Narrative review using the PubMed and Virtual Health Library (BVS) databases, employing descriptors from the Medical Subject Headings (MeSH) and Health Sciences Descriptors (DeCS). The terms used included, in English, Rhinoplasty AND Quality of Life AND Psychosocial Impact AND Patient Satisfaction AND Psychological Adaptation, and in Portuguese, Rinoplastia AND Qualidade de Vida AND Impacto Psicossocial AND Satisfação do Paciente AND Adaptação Psicológica. The time frame considered publications between 2010 and 2025, including clinical trials, observational, prospective, cross-sectional studies, and case reports, available in Portuguese, Spanish, and English. Duplicates, reviews, publications without full access, and those not directly addressing the objective were excluded. Results and Discussion: The review included nine studies indicating that rhinoplasty significantly improves nasal breathing and quality of life, as well as reduces psychological distress, especially when proper psychological preparation and clear communication are ensured. Conclusion: An integrated approach considering both functional and emotional aspects is fundamental to achieving satisfactory and lasting results in rhinoplasty. Keywords: Rhinoplasty; Quality of Life; Psychosocial Impact; Patient Satisfaction; Psychological Adaptation.
