Implementation of Single Input Dual Output DC-DC Converter for Renewable Energy
The rapid expansion of renewable energy sources, particularly solar and wind, in the GCC region necessitates efficient and scalable power conversion systems. Photovoltaic (PV) arrays typically operate at voltages around 1500 V, requiring reliable step-up DCDC conversion to meet the demands of High-Voltage DC (HVDC) and AC grid interfaces. While isolated DCDC converters using high-frequency transformers are an option, they are often costly, bulky, and less efficient at high power levels due to parasitic losses and design complexity. This paper proposes the implementation of a Single Input Dual Output (SIDO) DC-DC converter architecture by integrating Cuk and Single-Ended Primary Inductor Converter (SEPIC) modules. The proposed topology eliminates the need for large input capacitor filters, ensures continuous input current, and supports efficient voltage boosting, making it highly suitable for PV-based renewable energy systems. Theoretical models of the converter are developed and validated through low-power prototypes. Furthermore, a high-power (1 MW) simulation evaluates performance across different configurations, with a particular focus on the impact of parasitic inductor resistance at elevated duty cycles. Results confirm that the proposed SIDO converter achieves efficiency rates exceeding 90%, demonstrating its practicality for largescale renewable energy integration. This approach presents a compact, cost-effective, and transformer-less solution for improving power conversion in solar energy applications.
