Application of Artificial Intelligence in Power Systems from a Bibliometric Perspective

Artificial intelligence (AI) technology is increasingly being applied in power systems, and related research achievements are growing rapidly. Faced with a vast number of research papers, it is particularly important to extract valuable information from them and provide guidance for future research efforts. This paper employs bibliometric methods, integrating co-occurrence analysis, and knowledge mapping, to investigate the quantity and citation status of published papers in the application of AI in power systems. The research progress in this field can be divided into three stages: the initial stage (2004–2012), the early growth stage (2013–2018), and the rapid growth stage (2019–2023). Over 70% papers are published in last 5 years. China ranks first in both the number of publications and total citations, followed by the United States. This paper also analysis significant keywords and their burst patterns, and through co-occurrence analysis, categorizes the keywords into four main clusters: optimization; machine learning, deep learning, and prediction; stability; and load modeling. Through the analysis of literature, this paper provides references for future research on the application of AI technology in power systems.
