An Implementation Scheme for Large-Scale Data Center to Participate in Virtual Power Plant in Shanghai
Shanghai is the first city to start Virtual Power Plant (VPP) business in China and there are several large-scale data centers located in Shanghai. In 2024 data center's participation in VPP made fundamental progress. In this paper, the operation organization chart, process, price and features of demand response program within VPP framework in Shanghai are introduced. The advantages and disadvantages of 2 basic schemes for large-scale data center to participate in demand response are analyzed and therefore the scheme based on backup distributed diesel generator is selected according to its fitness for VPP's features. A concrete implementation scheme suitable for electrical connection topology of a large-scale data center is designed in details and really conducted during the demand response operation period this year in Shanghai. The operation result in the actual use case shows this scheme is effective, valuable and replicable for large-scale data centers in VPP application scenario around China.
