Application of Grid-Forming Energy Storage in Microgrid Based on ADPSS
Microgrids are an effective means of integrating renewable energy. However, as the penetration of grid-following renewable energy sources (GFL-ES) increases, microgrids face challenges such as insufficient inertia support and declining system stability. This paper explores the characteristics of grid-forming energy storage (GFM-ES) in contrast to grid-following models and introduces its supporting role in microgrid systems. It also presents the electromagnetic transient (EMT) model encapsulation technology for renewable energy systems in the Advanced Digital Power System Simulator (ADPSS) software. The paper discusses the conversion of static libraries into dynamic libraries through this interface to enable interaction with simulation tools and elaborates on specific methods for invoking EMT models, including data preparation, parameter conversion, and the construction of renewable energy station EMT models. Finally, a detailed case study on the application of GFM-ES in microgrids is demonstrated using ADPSS-based EMT simulations.
