Planning and Operation Optimization for Renewable Distributed Generation and Electric Vehicle Integration
High penetrations of renewable distributed generation (RDG) and electric vehicles (EVs) pose significant operational and planning challenges, particularly due to the variable output of renewable energy sources and the need to maintain system reliability and efficiency. This paper proposes an innovative optimization strategy for planning and managing distribution grids to accommodate the integration of EVs and RDG. Our approach focuses on reconfiguring the distribution network by adding new switches and/or adjusting the status of existing ones. The primary objective is to minimize power losses resulting from increased system loading and the additional power flow introduced by high penetrations of RDG and EVs. Probability distribution functions (PDFs) are used to model the variability of distributed wind and solar generation, while Monte Carlo Simulation (MCS) generates states that mirror real-world system conditions. A sensitivity analysis is also carried out to test the robustness of our optimization approach under varying levels of EV and RDG penetration.
