A Fast Approach for Simulating Steady-State Surface Charge of DC Gas-Insulated Line Insulators Utilizing the Equivalent Conductivity of Gas Ion Flow Effects

To analyze the surface charge accumulation characteristics on the high-voltage direct current (HVDC) gas insulated transmission lines (GIL) insulators and reduce the time-consuming issue caused by transient analysis, this paper proposes a new computational approach to handle the complex boundary condition settings. By coupling the electrostatic field, ion flow field, and current field, adopting an approach with the equivalent conductivity of gas ion flow ensures that the boundary current of the insulator satisfies the continuity condition. Based on the correct establishment of the simulation model, this paper further explores the impact of changes in surface conductivity on surface charge accumulation. As the surface conductivity increases, the distribution of charge polarity undergoes a change, which is usually opposite on the upper and lower surfaces.
