Multiphysics Analysis of a 1.5 MW High-Speed Permanent Magnet Synchronous Generator for Power Generation System
This paper proposes a multiphysics framework of a 1.5 MW, 16,500 r/min high-speed permanent magnet (HSPM) synchronous generator to ensure its operational reliability, focusing on the electromagnetic, mechanical, and thermal properties. Firstly, the structure and parameters of the 1.5 MW, 16,500 r/min HSPM synchronous generator are illustrated. The electromagnetism characteristics of it are analyzed via using finite element method. Then, to ensure the long-term reliable operation of the rotor bound by carbon fiber tow, the rotor strength at different states is checked, and the dynamics of the rotor supported by electromagnetic bearing are analyzed. Finally, the loss of each part of the HSPM machine is analyzed and calculated. To pursue the effective thermal management. a cooling scheme combing the water cooling and ventilation cooling is proposed, in which the cooling of electromagnetic bearing is also included. The results indicate that the 1.5 MW, 16,500 r/min HS PM machine can operate reliably under different conditions.
