Optimization of Virtual Inertia of Converter-Interfaced Generation for Rotor Angle and Frequency Stability Enhancement
With the replacement of conventional synchronous generators by these converter-interfaced generations (CIGs), power systems are being under the transition to low-inertia power systems. In this paper, a Bayesian optimization-based approach is proposed to optimize the virtual inertia of CIGs so as to enhance the rotor angle and frequency stability under different disturbances. A coherency-based performance index is firstly proposed to evaluate the security of the post-disturbance power system. Then, with the performance index to be the objective, the mathematical optimization model is formulated. As the nonlinear dynamics of power system is considered, the solution of the optimization model is intractable. As such, Bayesian optimization-based approach is proposed to compute the optimized solution without the need of model simplification. Case study on the modified IEEE 39-bus system with wind power is presented to demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed approach.
