Research on the Lightning Protection for the Pumped Storage Power Substation Using GIL Outgoing Line Design
This paper carried out the research on the lightning protection issues of pumped storage power stations with GIL outgoing line design. As a clean and efficient energy storage method, pumped storage power stations alleviate the pressure of fossil energy generation and reduce greenhouse gas emissions. Therefore, the application prospects of pumped storage power stations are very broad. GIL (Gas Insulated Metal Enclosed Transmission Line), has significant advantages such as large transmission capacity, less area occupancy, and convenient operation and maintenance. GIL design is widely used in highvoltage inlet and outlet lines of pumped storage power stations. To ensure the safe and economical operation of pumped storage power plants designed with GIL outgoing lines, this paper uses ATP-EMTP to simulate the lightning intruding overvoltages of pumped storage power plants designed with GIL outgoing lines under typical operation modes. The influence of different GIL lengths (varying from 800m to 1500m) on lightning intruding overvoltages is studied, and the influence of lightning arrester installation position on intruding overvoltages is also studied. The distribution law of lightning intrusion voltage is given, and the optimal lightning arrester installation scheme is provided for the pumped storage power plants designed with GIL outgoing lines. The research results will provide a theoretical basis for the standardized design of lightning protection for pumped storage power stations using GIL outgoing line design.
