Compact 2X2 MIMO Antenna with Enhanced Isolation using Electromagnetic Bandgap Structures for 5G Smartphones

Smartphones in the era of 5G innovations need antennas that are small, powerful, and efficient. An MPSP, Electromagnetic Band Gap (EBG) structures, and a Partial Ground Plane (PGP) are used in the paper to improve bandwidth, isolation, and gain in a new planar 2x2 shaped MIMO antenna designed for sub-6 GHz 5G applications. The suggested antenna design offers a wide frequency coverage, low port interference, radiation efficiency, and smartphone integration. Its viability is confirmed by fabrication on a board the size of a smartphone, which achieves a low Specific Absorption Rate (SAR) while ensuring adherence to industry security regulations. This method's remarkable isolation and diversity gain open the door for 5G smartphones' effective, low-SAR MIMO installations, spurring advancements in small, multi-band antennas for better connectivity and user experience. The effectiveness of 5G smartphones' low-SAR MIMO configurations is made possible by this technique's exceptional isolation and diversity gain, which also encourages improvements in small, multi-band antenna technologies.
