An Efficient VPN Solution for a Geographically Distributed Sensor Network

This paper presents the implementation of a distributed sensor network architecture utilizing mini-PCs (e.g., Intel NUC, Raspberry Pi) as node platforms. The study focuses on high-demand applications, including remote softwaredefined radio (SDR), GNSS monitoring via both SDR and dedicated hardware, and electric network frequency (ENF) analysis. By leveraging the computational capabilities and deployment flexibility of mini PCs, the proposed network achieves scalable processing, reduced latency, and adaptability to diverse sensor configurations. Our results demonstrate the architecture's efficacy in meeting stringent performance requirements while maintaining cost efficiency and ease of deployment, offering a viable alternative to traditional IoT models for resource-intensive sensing applications. To be operational, the proposed network uses a single fixed IP, which can be obtained via a free internet service.
