Transient Power Angle Stability of Wind Turbines based on VSG Control
As the integration of renewable energy sources into the power grid continues to expand, conventional methods for controlling wind power systems are increasingly inadequate to address the demands of modern power networks. Consequently, voltage-source converter (VSC) based grid-forming control strategies have garnered significant attention. Meanwhile, virtual synchronous control (VSG) technology has unique advantages in enhancing system stability, but it also has transient power angle stability problems. In this paper, a grid-connected wind turbine model based on VSG control is constructed, and the effects of voltage sag, control parameters and line resistance-to-inductance ratio on transient stability are analyzed. It is shown that the larger the voltage drop, the more serious the active power drop; when the frequency drop, the continuous increase of the power angle will lead to system instability; increasing the damping coefficient and decreasing the rotational moment of inertia can shorten the time to reach the maximum power angle; in addition, a higher line inductance ratio enhances the damping of the system and improves the stability. Finally, the validity of the analyzed results is verified by MATLAB/Simulink simulation.
