Impact of Solar PV, STATCOM, and TCSC Placement in a Power Network
The integration of renewable energy sources into power systems represents challenges such as voltage instability and power losses. The challenges arise due to incorrect placement of renewable energy sources and FACT devices. This study optimizes the placement of Solar PV, STATCOM, and TCSC in an IEEE 5-bus system using the Newton-Raphson Load Flow (NRLF) method in MI Power software. The results show that placing a 12 MW Solar PV at Bus 5, a 100 MVAR STATCOM at Bus 2, and a TCSC between Buses 2 and 5 minimizes power losses by 14.623% while improving voltage stability. These finding highlight the effectiveness of strategic FACTS device placement in enhancing power system efficiency.
