Performance Analysis of Bidirectional Full-Duplex-Assisted Reflective Intelligent Surface

This paper proposes the performance analysis of a bidirectional Full-Duplex (FD)-assisted Reflective Intelligent Surface (RIS) system operating within a Rayleigh fading channel. The proposed model consists of two source nodes, each with two antennas for transmission and reception, allowing information exchange through the RIS within a single time slot. Although self-interference poses a challenge to the performance of FD systems, increasing the number of reflective elements can effectively alleviate this issue. We derive analytical expressions to assess the probability of outage and the ergodic capacity. Numerical results indicate that the proposed system significantly improves the Signal-To-Noise Ratio (SNR) in comparison to a bidirectional Half-Duplex (HD) RIS communication system. The accuracy of the analytical expressions has been thoroughly validated and determined to align with the outcomes derived from Monte Carlo simulations.
