Research on the Impact of Pumped Storage Units on the Short-Circuit Rate and Transient Overvoltages in Surrounding Wind Farms
With the growing share of renewable energy in the global energy mix, enhancing the stability of wind farm systems has become increasingly important. Integration with the grid has emerged as a key focus area in power system studies. This study thoroughly explores the impact of integrating pumped storage units on the short-circuit ratios and transient overvoltage responses of wind farms. A simplified simulation model comprising multiple wind farm stations was developed, and the theoretical derivation of the pumped storage unit's effect on the system's short-circuit ratio was conducted. The simulation findings indicate that integrating pumped storage units significantly improves wind farms' voltage support capabilities and enhances overall system stability, particularly under large-scale fault conditions. Their ability to suppress transient overvoltage provides vital support for ensuring the safety of wind power grid connections.
