Flux-Weakening Control Strategy for Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motor Based on Maximum Torque Per Ampere Using Current Decomposition Method

The Maximum Torque Per Ampere (MTPA) control strategy is widely used in electric vehicles and industrial applications due to its excellent performance. By exploiting the differences between the d-axis and q-axis inductances in Interior Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motors (IPMSM), MTPA control significantly improves motor torque output and efficiency. Building on MTPA control, this paper proposes a flux-weakening strategy based on current decomposition. When the motor voltage reaches its limit and flux weakening is necessary, the current is decomposed into components, with one contributing to flux weakening while reducing its own component, thus achieving flux weakening. The introduction of current feedforward decoupling addresses the cross-coupling voltage issue caused by inductance asymmetry. Simulation and experimental results demonstrate the effectiveness and practicality of the proposed control approach.
