Optimizing Voltage Regulation in Hybrid PV-Wind Power Systems Using a Fuzzy Logic controller and Energy Storage-Integrated DVR
Voltage sags are a conventional power quality problem, frequently with major concern pertaining to the stability and performance of grid-connected renewable energy systems. This paper proposes a different approach involving the combination of the Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) and Superconducting Magnetic Energy Storage (SMES) within a framework of a Dynamic Voltage Restorer (DVR) that will stabilize the voltage of the grid-connected Hybrid PV-Wind power system. A Fuzzy Logic-Based controller adapts the mitigation of disturbance action and the voltage sag recovery feature of the DVR control. The hybrid PV-wind power grid implementation includes grid interconnection elements within the DVR-dynamic impact mitigation via the BESS and SMES storage. Actual implementation of the Fuzzy Logic Controller enables overturning with respect to key states for active DVR operation. The simulation studies validate the proposed technique for improvement in power quality and voltage profile of the hybrid system under various loading and environmental conditions. The combined operation of the FLC and DVR contributes to notable mitigation in sag duration and sag magnitude ultimately improving the dynamic and stability of power systems.
