Design and Implementation of Boost Multilevel Inverter for Flywheel Energy Storage System
This paper is on creating a power conditioning circuit utilizing a modular multilevel cascade converter (MMCC) and a flywheel energy storage system (FESS). The energy storage system (ESS) is powered by a photovoltaic (PV) array. Flywheel is used for smoothening voltage and current transients in intermittent stage during source switchover in microgrid applications. Modular multilevel cascade converters are used to obtain a higher equivalent switching frequency. When MMCC is used the harmonics in output waveform is reduced to a significant level. So, the need for filter is neglected. MMCC is advantageous as it constitutes very low switching losses. The hardware of MMCC is built and the output is observed in DSO. The output voltage exceeds the input voltage when FESS and MMCC are combined.
