Design and Analysis of a Compact Dual-Port Shoe-Mount Microstrip Patch Antenna using PTFE Substrate

This paper discusses the design and analysis of a wearable dual-port MIMO antenna. The antenna is integrated into footwear for monitoring fitness tracking. With the substrate material chosen to be Polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE), known for its flexibility, strength, and dielectric constant of 2.1, the antenna has been designed to operate in the frequency range of 5.8 GHz to be optimized for wearable applications under radiation pattern, impedance matching, and radiation efficiency. It has excellent diversity performance with ECC below 0.3 and interference minimization along with increasing channel capacity. The antenna has effective operation at 5.48 GHz and 5.61 GHz that is used in Wi-Fi applications (IEEE 802.11 ac/ax). MIMO technology offers the possibility of communication over several streams, so stable performance will be ensured with miniaturized designs. In this paper, an optimal coupling is achieved in wearable devices. It ensures stable and efficient operation within short to mid-range distances. Its innovative design comes with compact yet high-performing wearable fitness tracking and monitoring application.
