Instantaneous Capacitance Matching based Current Response Algorithm for EM Reliability Analysis

In this paper, we present a novel algorithm for signal line current estimation. Our approach predicts the current waveform by utilizing the driver’s current response to multiple fixed capacitors provided by the foundry. Additionally, we introduce an innovative method that leverages the equivalence between RC tree compression and recovery during each computation step, which allows our algorithm to accurately determine the current of any element within the signal line. Unlike traditional methods based on effective capacitance, our approach eliminates the need for prior RC network reduction or additional transient simulations. Experimental results demonstrate that our algorithm delivers excellent accuracy and competitive runtime compared to golden reference results, proving its effectiveness in evaluating the electromigration reliability of signal lines.
