Surface Plasmon resonance based Dual core D-shaped photonic crystal fiber refractive index sensor

Sensing technology is crucial in routine applications for the identification of particles in biological specimens, such as blood and other body fluids. Enhanced sensing methodologies provide expedited and more accurate diagnoses, resulting in time efficiencies and improved healthcare outcomes. Sensor based on surface plasmon resonance (SPR)-utilizing photonic crystal fiber (PCF) demonstrate a broad scope of uses in the earlier referenced areas of interest. However, various PCF-SPR sensors designed thus far face challenges, including complex structures, challenges in fabrication, and suboptimal detection efficiency, all of which impede the advancement of this technology. A D-shaped symmetrical dual core PCF - SPR sensor is equipped and developed to mitigate the afore mentioned drawbacks, featuring a straightforward design aimed at enhancing sensitivity and sensor's resolution. The properties that guide and the performance sensing metrics are examined utilizing numerical analysis employing the Finite Element Method (FEM). The properties influencing the guiding mechanism and performance sensing metrics are subjected to numerical analysis using the Finite Element Method (FEM). The sensor has a wavelength sensitivity peak of 9,450 nm/RIU and achieves a sensor resolution as low as 1.10×10⁻⁴ RIU. This optical sensor design indicates potential uses in identifying biomolecules and chemicals targets.
