An H-Bridge Based Diode Clamping Switched SHCB With Bi-Directional Interruption and Residual Energy Recuperation Ability

In this paper, an H-Bridge based series-type hybrid circuit breaker (H-SHCB) using diode clamping switching is proposed, which modulates the fault current in a low-current ripple by a H-bridge based voltage injection (VI) circuit, and uses a diode to clamp the mechanical switch (MS) opening, thus providing zero-voltage situation (ZVS) and low-current situation (LCS) for the disconnecting of MS. Meanwhile, the H-Bridge based voltage injector can provide the bi-directional voltage injection and current communication abilities, enabling bidirectional fault breaking and residual energy recycling without any extra components, further obtaining a self-restart ability. A simulation platform and laboratory scale-down prototype are constructed, and the results indicate that the proposed H-SHCB realizes fast fault current interruption speed (15A/5μs), are-free operation (ZVS and LCS) of MS in both forward and reverse conditions, and a self-restart ability with the residual energy recuperation.
