Comprehensive review on implementation of digital protection in distribution system with distributed generation sources
Distribution system is the main part of electrical power system through which power is delivered to the consumers. Rapid growth in consumer load demands need of Distributed Generation (DG) sources connected at consumer end in distribution system because of its advantages like reduction in power loss and enhancement in system reliability. But, implementation of DG sources alters Protection Coordination because fault level changes in system due to presence of DGs, change in direction of flow of current in faulty condition. This paper presents comprehensive study of different protection methodologies to protect distribution system against different abnormalities arising with implementation of DG sources. Also, points related to impact of implementation of DGs in distribution network like types of DG sources, place and size of DGs etc. on protection coordination are also discussed.
