Satellite image restoration with RLS adaptive filtering and image enhancement using image processing techniques

Satellite imagery is one of the most popular applications and has diverse uses. However, owing to the environmental conditions, these images may sometimes be degraded, which causes errors in information retrieval. In this paper, we presented a method for the retrieval and enhancement of degraded images obtained from satellites using RLS adaptive filtering techniques along with image processing methods. The proposed enhanced approach includes two phases: image restoration based on RLS adaptive filters and enhancement including transformations such as histogram equalization (HE) and contrast stretching transformation (CST) using formula and gamma correction. The experimental results demonstrate the efficacy of this method in eliminating noise and restoring deteriorated images while maintaining important components. The extensive performance evaluation of the proposed method proves its superiority over state-of-the-art methods in terms of both quantitative metrics (MSE, RMSE, SNR, etc.) and visual quality using graphical techniques. This method is applicable to applications where accurate and high-quality satellite imagery is needed for specific applications.

Abstract

Satellite imagery is one of the most popular applications and has diverse uses. However, owing to the environmental conditions, these images may sometimes be degraded, which causes errors in information retrieval.
