Design of a -3 dB Magic T microstrip power splitter for satellite application

This paper presents the realization of 3 dB Magic-T microstrip power splitter for satellite communication applications. The Magic-T hybrid junction is used as an essential method for ensuring both balanced power distribution and phase shifting within microwave circuits. Microstrip was employed in the design to achieve miniaturization, low insertion loss, and high port-to-port isolation. The comprehensive design treatment, including impedance matching, choice of dielectric material, and electromagnetic (EM) simulation, enhanced the end performance. Operating in the 2 to 16 GHz microwave frequency band for satellite communication bands, the return loss characteristic is more than -20 dB and the insertion loss is below 3.2 dB; isolation between the ports is better than 25 dB The magic-T power divider finds the best application in modern satellite payloads and ground station systems.
