Some trends in the development of populism in Finland and Sweden in the context of the recent history of the Baltic-Scandinavian Region

The article examines the problematic of the «right turn» and the related phenomenon of right-wing populism in the Nordic countries using Finland and Sweden as an example. The main emphasis is placed on the identification of right-wing populism and the features that distinguish it from left-wing populism. The work touches upon the current political strategy inherent in the Nordic countries today and reveals the general nature of the «right turn» in Finland and Sweden, emphasizing the differences in the historical context of the two countries under consideration. The article aims to demonstrate that over the past two years preceding the writing of this work, the rhetoric of the ruling elites of Finland and Sweden has undergone significant changes. Having rejected their own identity, the Nordic countries chose a new political paradigm, which became one of the reasons for the deterioration of foreign policy and foreign economic relations of the states of the region with the Russian Federation. Particular attention is paid to the elections to the European Parliament, which took place in early June 2024, which demonstrated the fact that the «right turn» began to acquire a pan-European character.
