The Image of Japan on the Pages of the Magazine "Mir Bozhiy"
The formation of the image of Japan as an enemy at the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries occurred gradually. A clear example is the image that formed on the pages of the magazine "Mir Bozhiy". For many years, the Japanese theme was somewhat overshadowed by Chinese events, but notes dedicated to the Land of the Rising Sun periodically appeared on the pages of the magazine, contrasting with descriptions of China. However, after the suppression of the Boxer Rebellion, everything changed. The image of Japan as a possible enemy in the Far East was formed on the pages of "Mir Bozhiy" gradually, the transition from admiration for the successes in modernization to concerns about excessive military strengthening and the "yellow threat" occurred by the beginning of the 20th century. Japan is assessed as a powerful military power, the main force of which is the navy. Already with the beginning of military actions in 1904, new extensive materials and analytical notes dedicated to Japan appeared, where the authors reflected on the causes of the conflict, Japanese military potential and the missed opportunities of Russian diplomacy to create an alliance with the Mikado. The main goal that the authors of the publication set for themselves is to understand their enemy and the reason for his success.
