The Connection of Cultural Eras in Alexandr Galich’s Poetry as a Way of Returning “Crossed Out” Poetic Names

The article illustrates the connection between cultural eras using the example of two poetic cycles. The first, “Alexandrian Songs,” is dedicated to Polezhaev, Blok, and Vertinsky. The cycle is integrated into a universally significant poetic series: through a roll call with M. Kuzmin’s “Alexandrian Songs”, the poet extends his hand to both the “Silver Age” and antiquity. In the cycle “Literary Bridges,” Galich focuses on the fate of artists of the first half of the twentieth century (Mandelshtam, Akhmatova, Zoshchenko, and others). “Mostki...”, through the unity of cultural eras, reveals both the tragic fate of the writers who fell into the Procrustean bed of Stalin’s time and the fate of Galich himself. The purpose of the article is to show how in Galich’s poetry the principle of connecting different eras becomes a way to return the “crossed out” names of artists to the perspective of history and culture.
