In the Soviet Union, 15 cartoons based on R. Kipling’s tales were made. The article examines the history of their appearance and provides a description of each work. The role that cartoons based on Kipling’s tales played in popularizing the images of the English writer in the target culture and in transcultural interaction is analyzed. It is concluded that the original English tales images, in a number of cases, have become alienated from their literary basis and appropriated by the target culture.
