Pinhole Ablation for Angiofibroma by CO2 Laser
Tuberous sclerosis is a rare autosomal dominant disorder. Cutaneous manifestations of tuberous sclerosis include angiofibromas, which are among the most common findings of the disease. It also serves as clinical pointer for diagnosis. A case of a 21-year-old female patient, diagnosed with tuberous sclerosis with multiple facial angiofibromas. The patient is undergoing multiple sessions of therapy of the pinhole method with an ultrapulse CO 2 laser with the gap of a month in each session. Angiofibromas are characterized by multiple solitary, dome shaped, skin-colored to red papules located on the central face, usually around the nose and on the malar eminences. The pinhole method, also called manual-type fractionated laser treatment, is a novel method that involves the use of a conventional CO 2 laser. Effective treatment with CO 2 laser pinhole ablation delivers an esthetic result, which helps to improve the self-esteem and quality of life of these patients. It is a novel approach with promising results.
