Impact of ICT on Work‐Life Balance of Teachers Working from Home

With changes in work profile and the rapid fluctuations in family and work roles, discussions on work‐life balance have gained considerable currency. There are several issues that need to be contextualised and explored in the multidimensional aspect of work‐life balance (WLB) and their possible implications for individuals, especially professionals. While technological developments and access to various information communication technology (ICT) tools have provided ample scope for flexible working patterns across various sectors, it was the COVID-19 pandemic, which disrupted education delivery, that brought such an opportunity for teachers. Exploring whether working (or not) from home improves or impairs teachers’ capacity to balance their work‐life commitments, the article analyses the findings of the study conducted among teachers on the role of ICT in their WLB. Data were collected from among teachers using a snowball sampling method, and chi-square test was used for finding out the variable relationships. The findings showed that the opportunity to use ICT for teaching from the comforts of homes had a significant relationship and constructive impact on teachers’ WLB. Further, with more time available to spend with family, work from home certainly increased enthusiasm and satisfaction among teachers.
