On the Methodology of Using Lidar in the Course of Environmental Monitoring of Hazardous Production Facilities

The study is dedicated to the topic of the use of innovative equipment during ecological monitoring of hazardous production facilities, in forest areas, and immediate proximity to stationary facilities of railway infrastructure. The goal of the article is the development of provisions of the methodology of practical use of the instrument laser package Lidar KEM-01 of the Scientific and Technical Center of Unique Instrumentation of the Russian Academy of Sciences (STC UI RAS) for remote detection and conttrol over parameters of finely dispersed smokes in the atmosphere during the environmental monitoring around hazardous production facilities, facilities of railway infrasrtucture, as well as in the course of research activities. The objectives of the study are the use of the device in various weather conditions, the elaboration of the most efficient algorithm of device operation, and the specification of its technical specifications. The object is a biosphere facility located in the Kaluga region (the forest area around the railway station). Methods of instrument control over the state of atmospheric air, pyrometric methods of detection of fire sources, fumigation, emission of poisonous and explosive substances, and smoke to the soil or water body surface have been applied. The instrumentation base has been provided by the environmental monitoring package Lidar KEM-01 (a prototype), typical metal detectors, pyrometers with various ranges of vision, GPS navigation systems, and meteorological equipment to measure humidity, wind direction, and atmospheric pressure. In order to evaluate the results, statistical and parametric methods of analysis have been used. As a result of tests of the instrumental package, separate provisions of the methodology of use have been elaborated, technical specifications of the long-range action (significantly expanded), rotation and inclination angles, and temperature working ranges have been specified. Conclusions on the advisability of use of the package for the continuous environmental monitoring of natural objects and hazardous production facilities, as well as railway infrastructure facilities, have been provided.
