Analysis of Causes of Accident and Injury Rate at Metallurgical Hazardous Production Facilities
Metallurgy is strategically significant for the national economy and involves a high number of hazards at each stage of the process chain. Industrial safety management systems, compulsory for hazardous production facilities of I and II classes, are used at metallurgical plants. One of the top-prioritized issues is the impact of employees’ competency on the accident and injury rate in metallurgy. The distribution of accidents and injuries during the period of 2014–2024 has been provided. Based on the statistical data for the last 11 years, the main causes of fatalities at metallurgical plants have been identified. Despite the measures taken at the plants, today, the impact of a human on fatal injuries cannot be excluded. It has been established that the highest number of accidents occurs at facilities of II and III hazard classes. The acts of investigation of fatalities for the last 5 years have been analyzed. Based on the analysis of injuries, the most dangerous occupation in metallurgical production has been identified. The distribution of fatal injuries depending on the average age and work experience of injured persons has been provided. The issue of the potential impact of the time passed from the employee’s start of work on the growth of injuries has been studied. To minimize accidents and injuries at production, it is necessary to motivate employees to work safely and support their level of competency. It is crucial to remember that at the moment of an accident, not competency itself has an effect, but it works as a combination of various factors.
