Severe mental illness and cardiovascular disease: the inequality gap
Gloria Rodriguez is an adult mental health and forensic dietitian with a specialist interest in the physical health inequalities faced by people with severe mental illness, particularly around obesity and cardiovascular disease. She is joined by Dr Lizelle Bernhardt, a cardiovascular nurse researcher and former chair of the British Association for Nursing in Cardiovascular Care (BANCC) Research Forum. In this month's editorial, they explore the drivers of premature mortality in people with severe mental illness and highlight practical opportunities to improve cardiometabolic care through better screening, integrated pathways, and more inclusive training for the multidisciplinary workforce.
