Usuwanie wybranych składników zawartych w kosmetykach przy pomocy adsorbentów węglowych otrzymanych z kory dębu

Oak bark, due to its properties and high availability, can find application as a raw material used in the production of carbon adsorbents. Due to the presence of functional groups on the surface and the extensive porous structure, activated carbons have excellent sorption properties and can be used to remove organic pollutants from the liquid phase. One such group of substances are parabens, or para- hydroxybenzoate esters (PHB’s) and their sodium salts. Parabens are commonly used in cosmetics, drugs and food products as preservatives. They are effective over a wide pH range and inhibit microbial growth. They belong to a group of substances known as ECD’s (endocrine-disrupting chemicals), or endocrine-disrupting chemicals. Parabens contained in cosmetics easily enter the aquatic environment, for example, during daily use of cosmetics. They can accumulate in the environment and cause disorders of living organisms, including humans. Their entry into the environment can be prevented by removing them with activated carbons through adsorption. Carbon adsorbents were obtained by direct activation with carbon dioxide of oak bark. Their adsorption properties against aqueous solutions of butylparaben were studied.
