Political Reforms and Socioeconomic Development During Democratic Governments and Martial Law Regimes in Pakistan
This research investigates the complex connection between military rule and democratic governance in Pakistan, mapping the country's political development from its founding to modern times. It examines the repeated cycles of military interventions and the return to civilian administrations, analyzing the justifications given for declaring martial law and how such actions have shaped the growth of political institutions and democratic principles. The research highlights persistent obstacles to democratic stability, such as weak institutions, intense political divisions, and ongoing security concerns. In addition, the study outlines potential pathways for reinforcing democratic systems, including the promotion of an independent judiciary, stronger parliamentary accountability, and the nurturing of a democratic political culture. By reviewing both historical trends and current political realities, this research offers a comprehensive understanding of the forces shaping Pakistan’s political system and puts forward strategies to support the creation of a more stable and democratic future.
