The Gaullist Idea of the State
The paper is devoted to the Gaullist idea of the state, which is the basis of the political regime of modern France. The formation of de Gaulle’s worldview is traced in the period before and during the Second World War. The development of the Gaullist doctrine during the Provisional Regime and the Fourth Republic is shown both by de Gaulle himself and his supporters. The Constitution of 1958, which is based on the idea of a strong executive power as the main political principle of Gaullism, is examined in detail. The main institutions of the Fifth Republic in France are presented — the president, the prime minister, the National Assembly, which have been functioning in the country to this day.
