Insights on Teaching Genre Writing: Moroccan EFL University Professors’ Perspectives

The current study explored the implementation of genre writing pedagogy in teaching EFL writing at Moroccan universities. Its focus was on how Moroccan university professors perceive the integration of genre writing in improving the writing skills of Moroccan Master students in the different EFL departments. For such an end, the study adopted a qualitative content analysis whose instrument was a semi-structured interview with Moroccan EFL university professors (N=16). The main findings indicated a strong recognition of the value of genre writing in developing students’ academic and communicative skills. They also recognized challenges related to students’ familiarity with genre conventions and highlighted the growing role of technology in supporting instruction. Overall, the study emphasizes the need for a well-integrated and technologically supported integration of genre-based writing instruction in Moroccan higher education.
