System for testing fire resistance of roof coverings

The article presents the design, construction, and verification of a prototype of a system for testing fire resistance of roof coverings. The design of the system and the analysis of the kinematics of test rigs employed Autodesk Inventor software. A prototype was built and verified for air flow velocity and heat radiation intensity. The test system is equipped with an extraction system that removes contaminated air from the space above the test rigs and from the test rigs themselves. The system ensures an increased level of protection for employees operating the test rigs by using a gas leak detector and better protection against dangerous smoke emitted when testing roof coverings; the system is also resistant to corrosion due to the use of stainless steel. A particular area of application for the system is the testing of roof coverings, especially in accordance with methods t2 and t3 specified in standard CEN/TS 1187:2012. The developed solution was used for the purpose of the performance of a contract for the delivery of a Fire Resistance Testing System to the Laboratory for Testing Wood and Building Products at the Łukasiewicz Research Network – Poznań Institute of Technology.
