As follows from Latvian case law, there is no consensus on whether the legal relations that determine the status of the rector of a state university pertain to public law or private law. The authors, using the insights expressed in doctrine and case law, as well as briefly considering the case law of other countries, analyse the arguments in favour of both positions.
